Former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has been linked to the Chicago Bears vacancy
Pete Caroll is a legend in every circle. The now 73-year-old, one year removed from coaching the Seattle Seahawks for over a decade, has been rumored to return to the NFL sidelines in 2025.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Caroll had expressed interest in the Chicago Bears‘ vacant head coaching position. The Bears kicked Matt Eberflus to the curb for reasons that showed up every Sunday, like embarrassing clock management. Eberflus was so bad that he became the first head coach the Bears ever fired midseason.
Recycling Carroll when hot commodities like Detriot Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson could become available is how bad teams would stay bad. That’s not a knock on Carroll, but you’d think with a rookie quarterback being the face of your franchise, you’d want to pair him with a successful, up-and-coming offensive mind, not somebody old enough to be his granddad.
We’ll see if Carroll’s return to the NFL sparks interest. I, too, am interested in coaching in the NFL, but that doesn’t mean I’ll get an interview.
