There were no surprises for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday morning on the inactive list ahead of their matchup with the Cleveland Browns. Here is who won’t be in uniform:

RB Jordan James
WR Jordan Watkins
OL Connor Colby
DE Sam Okuayinonu
DL Kevin Givens
LB Tatum Bethune
K Eddy Piñeiro

The only change is Robert Beal, who didn’t play on Monday night against the Carolina Panthers because of a concussion, is in for Sam O, who will miss time with a high-ankle sprain.

It might be frustrating that the 49ers aren’t developing their rookies, but there are no roles for James and Watkins. When Colby did play, he looked out of his depth — as most seventh-rounders do.

If you want to see James then you’re admitting that Christian McCaffrey needs the ball less, and Brian Robinson, who broke five tackles last week on seven carries, should also have fewer touches.

As for Watkins, the trio of Ricky Pearsall, Jauan Jennings, and Demarcus Robinson appears to be what the passing offense will look like moving forward, with a dash of Kendrick Bourne. Bourne has seen his snaps dwindle with Pearsall back in the lineup. He went from playing 30+ snaps every game to 13 and six in the previous two weeks. That’s not to say Watkins can’t provide what Bourne can, but the coaching staff has seen enough from the trio listed above to rely on them. The same cannot be said for Watkins.
