Ricky Pearsall and Talanoa Hufanga will not return to practice this week.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates ahead of Tuesday’s practice. The following players will return to practice in some capacity on Tuesday:
OL Ben Bartch
RB Isaac Guerendo
OL Spencer Burford
RB Patrick Taylor Jr.
Taylor needs to be on the field if he wants to make the roster. He was signed as a free agent this past offseason as a potential third-down back. But he hasn’t been on the field during the preseason and had a fumble the last time he was at practice.
According Shanahan, Feliciano recently underwent knee surgery and is likely to start the season in the injured reserve. He said, “Those guys get hurt the most because the offseason was taken away from them.”
We can pencil in Feliciano and Kalia Davis as players who the 49ers plan on designating to return at some point this season. Both are valuable depth players on the roster.
Burford will return to individual drills after missing a few weeks with a broken hand. He’s missed enough time that it feels like right guard is Dominick Puni’s at this point.
Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and safety Talanoa Hufanga will not return to practice this week. Shanahan remains hopeful that Hufanga can return to begin the season against the New York Jets in the opener on September 9.
As for Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams: “Zero updates. Nothing has changed.”
