Marquise Goodwin has been through a lot recently, including losing a child in the womb and his father over a matter of weeks. The unspeakable tragedies came in the middle of the best season of his career last fall.

The six-year receiver parlayed his breakout campaign with the 49ers in 2017 into a three-year, $20 million contract extension this offseason. He’s already using some of that money to help people he loves.

Goodwin recently bought a new home for his mother and sister, who has cerebral palsy. He posted video of the unveiling on social media this week.

Doctors said Goodwin’s sister, Deja, wouldn’t live longer than six months, according to an ESPN story in 2013. She’s now 26 and has been a constant motivating force for San Francisco’s leading receiver.

Goodwin logged 56 receptions for 962 yards in 2017, which were more than his previous four seasons in Buffalo combined (49 catches, 780 yards). He became Jimmy Garoppolo’s favorite target over the final five games, averaging nearly six catches and 77 yards per contest with the new quarterback under center.
