As the San Francisco 49ers finalize their roster and look ahead to Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, the news of who they’ll face in Week 2 just came out. The New Orleans Saints named Spencer Rattler their starting quarterback.

Rattler was drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had a rollercoaster of a rookie year with the Saints. He started six games, but was benched during his third start. That was in Week 8. Rattler did not start again until Week 15. From there, he had completion percentages of 47, 50, 55, and 61. Rattler finished his rookie season with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He also had five fumbles, while losing four of them.

Rattler has Chris Olave to throw it to. They traded for Devaughn Vele to boost their receiving core. Rashid Shaeed and Brandin Cooks make up the other wideouts on the roster. Oh, and who could forget Dante Pettis?

Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh gets Sam Darnold and Rattler to start the season. You can’t ask for a softer landing than those two for a team that figures to rely on several rookies and will have upwards of eight new starters on that side of the ball.
