Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary coached the San Francisco 49ers from 2008-10. Taking over in Week 8 of ‘08. That was after replacing Mike Nolan, who was a “dead man walking” and was inevitably going to get fired after five straight losing seasons. Singletary finished the season with a winning record, then followed up in 2009 with an 8-8 year. Singletary wouldn’t last another full season as he was fired in Week 16 of the 2010 season after going 5-10.

Singletary found himself in the news again as the former 49ers head man stepped down as the football coach of the Texas high school Trinity Christian Academy-Addison, the Dallas Morning News reported on Thursday. The report states that the former NFL Defensive Player of the year made the decision in December after going a combined 1-21 in two seasons at the school – including 0-11 in 2019. Singletary will focus on motivational speaking and consulting enterprises. One win in 22 games. The 61-year-old Singletary was also in charge of two teams in 2019 as he was also the head coach of the AAF’s Memphis Express during the league’s short run. He went 2-6 with Johnny Manziel and Christian Hackenberg as his quarterbacks in Memphis.

Usually, when a former superstar player or coach pops up in the news, it’s because he’s in some kind of legal trouble.
