Trading a linebacker for a younger linebacker.
Did you want a safety? The 49ers didn’t want to go that far back in the defense and went to the linebacking group grabbing Arkansas linebacker Dre Greenlaw. For now, it’s insurance to a thinned linebacking group after Dekoda Watson was traded and also insurance in case Kwon Alexander doesn’t work out. As always, it doesn’t matter about speculation, but how the pick does in the court of Twitter, we’ll start with whos is now Greenlaw’s former coach:
The @49ers got a good one there! Congrats @DreGreenlaw! #WPS #ProHogs https://t.co/tbhwZlQZ6J

New #49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw (6-0, 225) totaled 183 tackles, 8 tackles for loss and three sacks over the last two seasons. He reeled in two interceptions against Texas A&M in 2018. pic.twitter.com/ORyZ7lxGgr

More on #49ers “LB” Dre Greenlaw:
-Former safety
-Ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at his Pro Day
-Is known for his skills in zone coverage(perfect for Saleh’s defense)
-Most of his production comes from his athleticismSounds like the 49ers just drafted a safety

#49ers new pick at LB #Arkansas Dre Greenlaw is a depth guy & special teamer. Doesn’t show traditional block destruction technique. When he’s hot, he’s all over the field. I think he’s one of the better man-coverage LBs in this class after the top dudes.

New 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw does one thing very well:
TACKLE.
His 18.75 tacking efficiency ranked 12th in the class (per PFF).

@NinersNation are we all just missing something here? Bosa predictable, wish they went Williams. But another slot receiver in the 2nd, a raw WR in the 3rd, a punter in the 4th??!! Now a non aggressive LB that doesn’t go downhill? So confused!

How Dre Greenlaw fits in with the #49ers: He’s a special-teamer, a backup stack linebacker who is insurance for Kwon Alexander, who is rehabbing from torn ACL.https://t.co/yqAjKzMswx
