Fans of the NFL and video games were treated to the newest installment of the “Madden NFL” series Friday.
One player gamers won’t be able to use in Electronic Arts Sports’ “Madden NFL 18” is Colin Kaepernick – well, not without some roster shifting.
The quarterback remains unsigned months after leaving the 49ers. Despite not being on an NFL roster, Kaepernick continues to dominate headlines with both an outpouring of support and his share of detractors.
Kaepernick is available on the game in a list of free agents. EA Sports gave him a 79 rating, which would put him above six presumed NFL starters, at least four players battling for starting jobs and all three of the Cleveland Browns’ top options.
The highest starting quarterback with a rating below Kaepernick’s is Jay Cutler. The Miami Dolphins signal-caller opens with a 78 rating.
Other starters, according to their team’s depth charts, below the unsigned QB include the Denver Broncos’ Trevor Siemian at 76, the Los Angeles Rams’ Jared Goff and the New York Jets’ Josh McCown (both 73), and the Houston Texans’ Tom Savage, who has a 72 rating.
The Browns’ trio of Cody Kessler, Deshone Kizer and Brock Osweiler are all rated 75.
Even Kaepernick’s replacement with the 49ers, Brian Hoyer, is at 75.
Not surprisingly, the top rated QB in the game is Tom Brady of the New England Patriots with a perfect 99 score.
