
The final pick of the third round might be the 49ers’ most exciting pick of the draft. SMU wide receiver Danny Gray can flat out run, and he used that speed to amass 1,251 yards and 13 touchdowns on 82 catches across two seasons with the Mustangs.
San Francisco hasn’t had a wide receiver with his game-changing, field-stretching speed in a long time.
His college highlights are a ton of fun and offer an enticing look at how he could be utilized in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense. Perhaps the most impressive part of his best plays are the diversity. He has the speed to simply run by defenders, but he’s also capable of taking open space in the middle of the field and turning it into yards after the catch.
