An efficient outing for the Niners offense after the first two drives
What a statement. The 49ers went scoreless on their first two drives. The 49ers scored every time they touched the ball before Sam Darnold ran out the clock on a 42-19 victory. Brock Purdy threw for over 300 yards, Deebo Samuel backed up his trash talk, and Christian McCaffrey was his old self.
Let’s look at the offensive snap counts and grades from Sunday’s dominant win.
Quarterback – Brock Purdy 55 (80.9), Sam Darnold 4 (60.0)
Purdy was efficient as ever with 314 passing yards, 11.6 yards per attempt, four touchdowns, 3.4 BTT (big-time throw) percent, and zero TWP (turnover-worthy plays). Oh, and a 148.8 passer rating. The 49ers offense was a machine, and Purdy delivered many fine throws to set his receivers up.
Sam Darnold coming into the game signals a blowout. It’s a welcome sight for 49ers fans.
Running Back – Christian McCaffrey 52 (85.6), Kyle Juszczyk 22 (65.1), Elijah Mitchell 5 (77.5), Jordan Mason 3 (65.2)
McCaffrey finished with 93 yards on 17 carries, 67 yards after contact, three MTF (missed tackles forced), three ten-plus yard runs, and three receptions for 40 yards with a rushing touchdown.
Kyle Juszczyk finished with a 75.8 pass-blocking grade and a 74.1 run-blocking grade on only 22 snaps. Elijah Mitchell forced two missed tackles on three carries.
Wide Receivers – Brandon Aiyuk 51 (76.5), Deebo Samuel 49 (86.1), Jauan Jennings 29 (72.5), Chris Conley 9 (59.9), Ronnie Bell 7 (68.1)
Samuel backed up all his offseason talk with 116 receiving yards, 29 yards per reception, three touchdowns, 115 yards after catch, 28.8 YAC per reception, 3.87 yards per route run, and a perfect passer rating when targeted (158.3). What a game for 19.
Brandon Aiyuk added five receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown. Aiyuk’s average depth of target on Sunday was 8.7 yards. Three of Aiyuk’s targets were CTT (contested targets), and Aiyuk brought two of them in.
Jauan Jennings got in on the act, throwing Eli Ricks aside for a touchdown catch of his own. Jennings finished with three catches, 44 yards, and a touchdown.
Tight Ends – George Kittle 55 (75.3), Charlie Woerner 12 (56.2), Ross Dwelley 1 (58.8)
George Kittle caught four of his six targets for 68 yards. Kittle finished with 17 yards per reception and had a long of 32 yards to set the 49ers up for an Aiyuk touchdown. Kittle also finished with a 71.9 run-blocking grade.
Offensive Line – Spencer Burford 59 (56.1), Aaron Banks 59 (69.6), Colton McKivitz 55 (60.5), Jake Brendel 55 (69.9), Trent Williams 55 (68.2), Matt Pryor 4 (60.2), Jaylon Moore 4 (76.1), Jon Feliciano 4 (59.9)
Jake Brendel finished with the highest offensive grade amongst the 49ers offensive linemen. Aaron Banks finished with the best run-blocking grade at 72.4. Trent Williams had the best pass-blocking grade at 76.5.
The line allowed 11 pressures, eight hurries, a QB hit, and two sacks. Colton McKivitz allowed three pressures, with the rest of the starters being charged with two apiece. Burford and McKivitz allowed the two sacks on the day.
