Deebo Samuel is officially changing his jersey number.

After wearing No. 19 for his first five seasons as a pro, Samuel will revert back to his college number and rock No. 1 in red and gold next season.

The number change will also come with a slight change to the name on the back of his jersey as well. Instead of just “Samuel” spread across the back of the shoulders, his name plate will now read “Samuel Sr.”

Safety Jimmie Ward was the last player to wear No. 1 for the 49ers in 2022 after no player wore the number last season. Samuel joins Ward, Troy Smith, Jose Cortez, Gary Anderson and Noland Smith as the only 49ers to wear the single digit.
