Before suffering a 29-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers were dealt another hit on Sunday.
With wins from the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers’ slim chances of a late playoff run have officially come to an end. Victories from Washington and Los Angeles in the early window officially eliminated the 49ers from playoff contention.
Following their loss in Miami, Kyle Shanahan was asked about being eliminated from a chance at the playoffs. Shanahan said he wasn’t aware about being eliminated and it wouldn’t of had an impact on the game on Sunday against the Dolphins.
I wasn’t aware of that. That wouldn’t have done nothing with the game. We kind of had that vibe last week. I know it wasn’t official, but we understand numbers. So, we kind of knew that last week.
They told me after the game here it was official with those two games. We understand what one percent chances or whatever it was last week.

In eight seasons with the 49ers, Shanahan has missed the playoffs four different times. The 49ers absence from the postseason will be the first time in three years San Francisco will be on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
The Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons are still in the hunt in the playoffs. The Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings have clinched playoff spots for the this season.
