The San Francisco 49ers went into Saturday’s preseason game against the Denver Broncos with an already depleted running back room. However, Ameer Abdullah left with a rib injury. Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James were already out, which meant San Francisco was likely to add a running back to its roster this week.

Before Saturday’s game, the 49ers signed running back Ke’Shawn Vaughn. They also had a visit from running back Deon Jackson. But a familiar face is back in the fold instead of Jackson. Wilson, 29, requested a trade from the 49ers after he saw the writing on the wall. San Francisco pushed their chips into the middle and acquired Christian McCaffrey. There weren’t going to be many opportunities for Wilson. We’ll if Wilson earns a roster spot over the young backs on the roster, or if he ends up being a camp body.
