The San Francisco 49ers might have lost their most impactful player for the season early in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game. Warner went down with a right leg/knee injury in the first quarter:
Instantly, the entire sideline came out to check on Warner:
Warner is likely out for the season with some type of fracture or ankle dislocation. His right ankle was facing the other way. There was an air cast placed on Warner’s right leg.
Warner has been the poster child for playing in every game. He’s missed one game in eight seasons. It goes without saying that Warner is the best linebacker in the NFL and the leader of the 49ers’ defense. But this year felt different. Warner was playing the best football of his life and was making a real run at the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Now, the 49ers will probably miss two of their best defensive players for the rest of 2025.
This injury could also mean the 49ers aren’t nearly as aggressive at the trade deadline. We will see.
