Discipline wasn’t an issue for the San Francisco 49ers this past season. The Niners were the least penalized team as far as penalties counted against them, and only two teams had fewer yards against them than San Francisco.
However, according to The Action Network, the 49ers were fined $715,875 during the 2025 season, which was the third-highest total in the NFL. Only the Washington Commanders ($1.49 million) and the Pittsburgh Steelers ($749,000) lost more money to league discipline than the 49ers.
The 49ers were flagged with 16 total infractions, which was also the third-most in the NFL. That $715,875 total in fines accounted for roughly 8 percent of all league-wide fine money.
There are asterisks worth noting. Suspensions play a factor here. Demarcus Robinson’s three-game substance-related suspension and Isaac Alarcon’s six-game PED suspension helped inflate the 49ers’ total. Those suspensions were each north of $280,000 and ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, among player fines. Because of those two, the 49ers were one of four franchises to clear $500,000 in fines.
Taking a look at the other infractions, Deommodore Lenoir had two, totalling $32,537. One was for “Impermissible use of the helmet,” when he headbutted a Seahawks player in the playoffs. That cost Lenoir $20,944. He was also fined $11,593 for a late hit when he tried to punch the ball away from Colts running back Jonathan Taylor.
The unnecessary roughness call in the Colts game was a silly flag on Lenoir, but the headbutt to Jaxon Smith-Njigba was uncalled for and a cheap shot.
Lenoir wasn’t the only player on the roster to be fined for “impermissible use of the helmet.” Christian McCaffrey, Kyle Juszczyk, and Fred Warner all received fines throughout the year for the same thing.
