So much for the illegal tampering period. The Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a deal where the Rams receive cornerback Trent McDuffie, while the Chiefs receive the No. 29 pick in this year’s draft, as well as the Rams’ fifth and sixth round picks. Additionally, the Chiefs sent a 2027 third-round pick to the Rams.

McDuffie was the elite nickel before it became trendy these past couple of seasons. He’s been consistently one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL since entering the league in 2022. Now, McDuffie walks into a situation where coverage is one of the Rams’ biggest issues. He should solve the majority of their issues.

McDuffie is up there with Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon in value at the position. Now, the two best teams in the division have a high-quality cornerback. The Niners cannot say the same.

It’ll be an interesting offseason for the 49ers. Secondary is an area that must be addressed, but the same can be said for the defensive line and the wide receiver group, especially now that the Rams acquired McDuffie.

Again, a lot can change during the next couple of weeks. For now, the Rams make the first move by acquiring a two-time All-Pro. Your move, John Lynch.
