The best case scenario for the 49ers in the 2019 NFL draft is one where quarterback Kyler Murray goes first overall. That opens the door for San Francisco to select the top edge rusher in the draft – Ohio State’s Nick Bosa. The typical way this has happened in mock drafts is the Cardinals taking Murray with the top pick. An alternate scenario plays out in the latest Draft Wire mock that would rock the entire league.

A blockbuster trade with the Raiders and Cardinals moves the Raiders up to the No. 1 overall pick from No. 4. Arizona acquires Nos. 27 and 35 to move down three spots. Oakland then takes Murray, allowing Bosa to drop to the 49ers.

It’s not entirely out of the question that San Francisco trades back from No. 2, but it feels inevitable that Bosa is their pick in the event Murray goes first.

Here’s how the four-round mock draft shakes out for the 49ers:

Round 1, Pick 2 | Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

He’s big, fast, strong, and technically sound after years of working with his NFL star brother, Joey. There’s not a lot Bosa can’t do as an edge defender. Adding him on the side opposite Dee Ford turns the 49ers’ pass rush from one of the league’s worst to one of its best. Being great at getting to the quarterback is almost as important as having a great quarterback. Bosa gives San Francisco a chance to immediately turn their entire defense around.
