The 49ers’ blowout loss to the Rams in Week 17, along with a few other Week 17 results, secured the No. 2 pick for San Francisco in next year’s draft.

The 2019 draft has been a focus for some since Jimmy Garoppolo was hurt in Week 3. With the regular season over, it’s officially time to look ahead to April’s draft.

It’s impossible to project accurately what the draft will look like prior to the pre-draft process playing out. The college football season hasn’t even ended yet. However, it’s never too early to start gathering names to pay attention to at the top of the draft.

Here are five players who could conceivably be draft targets of the 49ers with the No. 2 pick:

Nick Bosa, EDGE, Ohio State

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Bosa has been the consensus top pick for most of the year. However, things get weird throughout the draft process as trades go down, free agency takes place, and players rise and fall on the draft board. The Cardinals probably draft Bosa if they have to pick on December 30, but there’s a real chance he winds up falling out of the top spot by Draft Day.

His production across the last two seasons is extremely impressive. He posted 22 tackles-for-loss and 12.5 sacks in 17 games. Bosa’s 2018 was limited to three games after an abdominal injury knocked him out. He decided to forego the year to focus on getting ready for the draft. San Francisco badly needs an edge rusher, and Bosa checks all the boxes.
