A loss to the Seahawks is another crater in a rocky 2018 campaign for the 49ers. However, it may not wind up being the worst thing for their future though.

San Francisco maintained their spot atop the 2019 NFL draft order:

The Cardinals actually went in to Green Bay and won. That moved them to 3-9, leaving the 49ers and Raiders alone among two-win teams. If the season ended after Week 13, the 49ers would hold the strength-of-schedule tiebreaker with the lower schedule strength.

It’s hard to continue looking ahead to the draft, but injuries have put the 49ers in this position. This iteration of the 49ers with a host of backups and third-string players in the lineup was never going to contend for a playoff spot. Winning is nice, but losing sets the 49ers up better for the future.

The 49ers are going to continue trying to win. However, the losses come with a built-in silver lining in the draft order.
