The first round of the NFL draft couldn’t have gone much better for the 49ers. They got the top edge rusher, and arguably best player in the draft with the No. 2 overall pick, and then there wasn’t a big run on players at their biggest positions of need remaining.

San Francisco is only scheduled to pick twice on Day 2 of the draft. The second day covers Rounds 2 and 3. Here is where the 49ers are slated to select Friday:

Round 2, Pick 4 (No. 36 overall)

Round 3, Pick 3 (No. 67 overall)

The ample amount of quality players at positions the 49ers should address, it makes sense for them move back out of one or both of those picks to acquire more selections. They can afford to slide down a few spots knowing that a good player will be available. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the second day wraps up with the 49ers having picked three or four times.

On the other hand, the amount of good players on the board may actually deter San Francisco from moving down. They can get a first-round talent at No. 36, then potentially scoop up a player at No. 67 at a great value.

The 49ers will only have three picks remaining after Day 2 if they don’t move. They moved their fifth and seventh-round selections in trades over the past couple seasons. A move back on Day 2 could fetch them an additional Day 3 pick, which could benefit them later on in the draft.

Once again the 49ers have a ton of options available. Day 1 went well, and they’re in a position to carry that high note through Day 2.
