There’s a lot of talk about the 49ers trading back, so let’s take a look at what each pick will be worth

There has been plenty of talk about the San Francisco 49ers making a trade in the upcoming NFL Draft. Whether that’s to move down in the first round, or trade back into the 20’s from their second round pick. You’ve probably seen it all.

General Manager John Lynch has been no stranger to draft day trades. In 2018, he traded up from 59 to 44 for Dante Pettis. Fred Warner in the next round. Then the Trent Brown trade. Vance McDonald. That’s just that year. Lynch isn’t shying away from making moves. If this years draft is anything like 2018, there will be a ton of movement. With that in mind, it makes sense to show the trade value chart. Maybe use this as a resource on draft night as well. This also gives us an idea of what it will cost teams to move up, and come up with scenarios.

Here is the trade value chart:

Per Tankathon, the 49ers have the third most value when it comes to their picks. Which is no surprise, as they only have six.

Here are the values for every 49ers pick:

  • Pick 2: 2600 points
  • Pick 36: 540 points
  • Pick 67: 255 points
  • Pick 104: 86 points
  • Pick 176: 20.6 points
  • Pick 212: 6.2 points

The 49ers don’t have a fifth or seventh round selection in this years draft. The fifth was traded away to the Detroit Lions for Laken Tomlinson back in 2017. Their seventh pick was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2018 for Shon Coleman. A starter and a quality backup. You’ll take those trades every time.

3 possible trade scenarios

49ers receive: No. 4, No. 24

Raiders receive: No. 2.

This is the most likely scenario to me. The Raiders have three first round picks. Whether Kyler Murray, Nick Bosa, or Quinnen Williams fall, Oakland is a strong candidate to move up. Especially if they are head over heels over either of the three.

49ers receive: No. 32. No. 134.

Patriots receive: No. 36, No. 86.

This trade is only two points off using the trade value chart from above. In this scenario the 49ers trade in front of the Cardinals for a receiver that they covet, assuming N’Keal Harry. The Lynch-Herm Edwards pipeline is about to be a very real thing. The two are very close friends. The team has already been rumored to be all in on Harry. The Patriots love to trade out of the first round. The teams swap second and fourth round picks in this scenario. Lynch gets his guy and Bill Belichick moves way up in the draft.

49ers receive: No. 41, No. 125.

Broncos receive: No. 36.

This is another trade that I haven’t seen brought up that makes so much sense it won’t happen. There is the Stanford connection between general managers. The two stood next to each other for quite awhile at the Arizona State Pro Day chatting it up. Let’s say Denver passes on a QB in the first round and Duke’s Daniel Jones falls out of the first round. John Elway loves him a tall QB that isn’t good at throwing the ball. In a scenario where the Giants give Eli Manning “one more chance” by using their first picks on offensive skill players and Jones is the QB of the future.
