The 49ers’ path to contending in 2019 starts with free agency. They simply have to find established players who can step into starting or reserve roles and have a positive impact on the roster.

They have the cap space to go after players at the top of the market, but they have depth concerns that should also move them toward lesser-coveted players.

This is our free agent big board. It includes the top 20 free agents the 49ers should go after. It won’t include the free agents from last season’s 49ers roster. The legal tampering period opens Monday at 9:00 AM PT, with free agency officially starting Wednesday at 1:00 PM PT.

We’ll update it in real time as deals are announced.
