The first piece of 49ers apparel the team’s first-round pick will wear, assuming they attend the NFL draft in Nashville, Tenn., is the 2019 draft hat released by New Era. San Francisco’s offers a steep improvement from last year’s model.

This year’s draft hats aren’t uniform. New Era opted for a unique look for each team instead that pays homage to the team’s market with elements from flags that correspond to the area the team resides.

“The New Era 2019 On-Stage NFL Draft Collection is inspired by the flags in the markets of each of the NFL’s 32 franchises, incorporating unique design elements that tie back to each team,” New Era said in a press release.

The 49ers’ hat is blended with a couple key elements of the California state flag.

The hat features the 49ers’ logo in place of the bear and grass on the California flag.

San Francisco certainly doesn’t own the state of California from a football perspective. The Raiders still reside across the Bay. The Rams returned to Los Angeles and the Chargers remain in Southern California. The 49ers are the state’s longest-tenured franchise. They’ve also never vacated the state.

This year’s draft hat offers a tremendous improvement over last year’s edition. The primarily gray hat with standard block font wasn’t an awesome look. This year is substantially better, and the California tie-ins are a nice touch as well.

As long as the 49ers’ first-round pick attends the draft, they’ll slide on this lid as they take the stage to shake hands with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. If all goes well for San Francisco, that draft pick will make their home in California for a long time.
