Breaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today is safety Tyree Robinson

The San Francisco 49ers safeties took one of the bigger beatings in the injury department for 2018 and at the tail end of this was Tyree Robinson. Remember that statement that the 49ers were getting backups of backups? Well Robinson fits that definition pretty well.

Beginning on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad as an undrafted free agent, Robinson was signed to the main roster in December while the team waited to hear the status of Jaquiski Tartt whom suffered a stinger against the Denver Broncos.

Robinson would go on to never dress on game day and therefore, still waiting to see the field.

There’s not much on his NFL production, but here are some college highlights if you are so inclined.

Basic info

Age: 25
Experience: No accrued seasons, second season in the NFL
Height: 6’2
Weight: 215

Cap Status

He is entering the second year of a two-year deal. His salary will be $570,000 for 2019.

What to expect in 2019

The 49ers safety depth was obliterated with injuries in 2018, but now the group is getting healthy once again. This makes Robinson the clear odd-man out when the likes of Marcell Harris and D.J. Reed are looking to make the roster. Expect to be seeing Robinson coming in for some fourth quarter action in the preseason, but the 49ers safety group has gotten far too deep with all the returns from injury for him to be playing with the starters, or the backups for that matter. You won’t be hearing much about him during camp.

Odds of making the roster

As we said, the 49ers safety position is healthy with the returns of Tartt, Harris, Reed, Adrian Colbert, and Jimmie Ward. Antone Exum is on thebubble to get a final roster spot if offered, but Robinson is a Week 4 preseason second stringer. The final preseason game is a showcase of talent most likely to be cut (and talent fighting for those final roster spots). Robinson falls into the earlier category. Don’t expect to see him on the field until late into games. If he returns to the 49ers, something has happened to the safeties. Again.
