The 49ers had to do some practice squad shuffling after defensive tackle Darrion Daniels went down with an injury before Wednesday’s practice. They’re adding DL Chris Slayton to replace Daniels who’ll go on the practice squad injured reserve per NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.
Maiocco reported Daniels went down with what looked like a lower leg injury while dancing before Wednesday’s practice. Daniels signed the 49ers as an undrafted free agent last year. He spent most of his time on the practice squad during his rookie campaign, but saw action in four games and posted four tackles as a rookie.
The #49ers signed DT Chris Slayton (Syracuse) to the practice squad. He took the spot of DT Darrion Daniels, who goes on the practice squad/injured list. Daniels appeared to injure his lower leg while dancing Wednesday during warmups.

Slayton was a seventh-round pick of the Giants in 2019, but in two NFL seasons he’s also spent time with the Falcons and Steelers. He’s yet to make his NFL debut. With their defensive front thinned dramatically by injury, having additional depth in-house is important.
