The 49ers are back in the market for a kick returner. Wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who has held down the kick returner position for San Francisco the last two seasons, is exiting in free agency to join the Atlanta Falcons according to NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero.
McCloud averaged 9.8 yards per punt return and 22.9 yards per kick return during his tenure with the 49ers. He also contributed 26 catches for 378 yards and a touchdown on offense.
The 49ers don’t have a ton of in-house options to replace McCloud. Second-year WR Ronnie Bell could conceivably take on that role, but the more likely scenario is that San Francisco finds a player in free agency who can fill the vacancy.
