The 49ers have been busy leading up to the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft.
There are four players eligible for the 2018 NFL Supplemental Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers have made sure to scout out all four players in person. Draft analyst Tony Pauline reported on Thursday that the 49ers were one of six teams on hand for the workout of Oregon State linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu.
Ugwoegbu left his college team earlier this offseason for personal reasons, and was subsequently suspended. He broke out in 2016, finishing with 54 tackles, including 11 for a loss, and 5.5 sacks over the course of eight games. Last season, he played all 12 games, and finished with 55 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries.
You can check out a December 2017 scouting report on Ugwoegbu here. He is described as best suited for 4-3 weak side linebacker with solid range and solid change of direction in coverage. The 49ers have Malcolm Smith and Reuben Foster split between middle and weak side linebacker, with third round pick Fred Warner expected to work his way into the mix as well.
The 49ers have also been to the workouts for cornerback Adonis Alexander, safety Brandon Bryant, and cornerback Sam Beal.
