Depending how the NFL draft falls, the 49ers might be inclined to trade back from their spot at pick No. 9 or 10 to acquire more assets to continue replenishing the roster.

That’s what San Francisco did with the Bears in 2017. General manager John Lynch moved back one spot from No. 2 overall for two thirds and a fourth-round pick. Chicago selected quarterback Mitchell Trubisky and the 49ers took the second-ranked player on their board, Solomon Thomas.

Will it happen again? That’s the scenario painted in the Draft Wire’s latest 4-round mock NFL draft published this week, allowing the 49ers to land a player that would address arguably the biggest hole on defense.

Lets take a look at the 49ers’ first-round trade and the six prospects headed to San Francisco in Draft Wire’s latest mock:

Round 1 – Pick 11 (from MIA): Josh Jackson, CB, Iowa

Lynch trades back two spots with the Dolphins in this hypothetical trade and picks up an additional fourth-round selection. Analyst Luke Easterling pegs the 49ers with Jackson, the same player they selected at No. 9 in his previous mock:

The strength of this year’s corner class is in its depth, but Jackson has the size, athleticism and ball skills to be the best in class, giving the 49ers the shut-down artist they need on the outside.

Jackson, at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, has ideal size, length and aggression for the 49ers’ Cover-3 scheme. He had an impressive Junior season at Iowa, totaling 48 tackles and eight interceptions to lead the FBS – with two returned for touchdowns. Jackson would pair well with 2017 third-rounder Ahkello Withersoon and give the 49ers a young, promising starting tandem. But they might be inclined to go a different direction if they spend big on a veteran corner in free agency, like Malcolm Butler, Trumaine Johnson or Rashaan Melvin.
