Tough not to go to that well again after the last guy they drafted from Iowa

Why wouldn’t you? The San Francisco 49ers found a gem late in the 2017 NFL Draft. Tight end George Kittle is already one of the best players in the league at his position. The former Iowa Hawkeye is one of the best athletes at his position, too. Speaking of athletes, Noah Fant isn’t too shabby himself. According to Alex Marvex of Sirius XM NFL Radio, the 49ers are hosting Fant at some point this week.

Here’s how they measure up against each other:

Kittle: 6’4”, 247 pounds, 4.52 40-yard dash. 35” vertical jump. 11-foot broad jump.

Fant: 6’4”, 249 pounds 4.5 40-yard dash, 39.5” vertical, 10.5 broad jump.

How crazy is that?

From an on the field perspective, the two are quite different. It’s tough to compare anyones blocking to Kittle, but he’s just so much better in that area than Fant. Fant is more of a down the seam or use his athleticism to create mismatches on play-action. Which makes him a perfect fit for Kyle Shanahan’s heavy, successful, play-action offense.

Iowa split out Fant wide quite a bit. He was also their slot receiver, and even would get bubble screens thrown to him on fourth down. That gives you the type of idea of the athlete he is if the numbers above didn’t help.

What do you think, double down on TE?
