The Niners take another look at a tight end
Last week, the team hosted Iowa’s athletic tight end Noah Fant. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the San Francisco 49ers worked out tight end Jace Sternberger from Texas A&M. The team knows they have a star in George Kittle. Getting someone to complement Kittle and give you more versatility than a guy like Garrett Celek makes sense. Trying to find the appropriate area in the draft to do so is the challenge.
Sternberger is 6-foot-4, 251 pounds. He’s not a burner, but he’s known for playing faster than what he times. He is also known as a very good route runner.
Out at #NFL Films today with @gregcosell…Watching Texas A&M TE Jace Sternberger (6-foot-4, 251). Sets up the DB to win on the seam/post here. And you can see his ability to run after the catch. @NFLMatchup pic.twitter.com/NMLlyU4PKd

Sternberger actually transferred from Kansas after two seasons. He redshirted the first year and only caught one pass the following year. In 2018, Sternberger finished with 48 catches for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns. One thing that all these pass catchers have in common is that they find the end zone. The 49ers are consistent in that regard.
