The 49ers will begin their third and final week of training camp without eight players, including starters DeForest Buckner, Joshua Garnett and Jimmie Ward, who is trying to come back from a hamstring strain.

Buckner re-injured his ankle early in Friday’s preseason opener. He will miss Saturday’s game against the Broncos — as well as joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday with Denver — but the issue is not expected to be long term. San Francisco’s training camp ends on Thursday.

Garnett, the team’s top choice at left guard, last week had a procedure on his knee, one that likely will keep him out of the season opener on Sept. 10. Ward tested his injured hamstring on Sunday with Kyle Shanahan saying beforehand the hope was that Ward, the starter at free safety, could return this week.

That Ward is listed as “out” for Monday’s practice suggests he needs more time to recover.

In addition, receiver Aaron Burbridge (hamstring), defensive lineman Ronald Blair (groin), linebackers Donavin Newsom (concussion) and Jayson DiManche (hamstring) and safety Chanceller James (knee) also are out of Monday’s practice.

Cornerback Dontae Johnson (concussion), linebacker Brock Coyle (ribs) and tight end George Kittle (hamstring) are listed as limited. Safety Jaquiski Tartt, who did not play Friday, is full go.
