This signing makes the practice squad full
On Monday morning, the San Francisco 49ers made the addition of offensive tackle Ryan Pope official. This was rumored to happen on Sunday when the team signed nine players to their practice squad.
Pope (6-foot-7, 313 pounds) originally signed with the Detroit Lions as a rookie free agent on May 10, 2019, out of San Diego State University. He was waived by the Lions on August 30. A 22-year-old native of Lakewood, CA, Pope appeared in 38 games (24 starts) along the offensive line for the Aztecs. As a senior in 2018, he started all 13 games and earned Second-Team All-Mountain West honors. He joined San Diego State after one season (2014) at Long Beach City College.
Here’s a quote from a Detroit Lions affiliate site on Pope:
“Pope struggled mightily throughout the offseason program and into training camp. He was simply overwhelmed at times, and went on to play just 25 snaps in the preseason.”
