49ers reportedly sign veteran RB Sincere McCormick
“McCormick’s only career regular-season production came in 2024 with the Raiders, when he appeared in five games. He totaled 183 rushing yards on 39 carries (4.7 yards per attempt) and added six receptions for 29 yards.”
Breaking down 49ers’ undrafted rookies: Intriguing pass rusher, punter with a shot (paywall)
“Kamara earned All-America honors in 2023 (James Madison) and 2024 (Indiana) when he combined for 16.5 sacks, 32.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and five forced fumbles.
So why wasn’t Lawrence Taylor Lite drafted? Kamara’s two-sack, 16-game senior season with the national-champion Hoosiers likely raised more questions about his ability to overcome his physical limitations at the NFL level.
Kamara lacks ideal height and arm length (31 3/8 inches) and his poor pre-draft testing numbers included a slow 40-yard dash (4.9 seconds). In addition, he has had at least three shoulder surgeries, although he played in all 29 games over his final two seasons.
There is a logical path to a roster spot. The 49ers counted their outside pass rush among their biggest pre-draft needs before using a third-round pick on Texas Tech’s Romello Height.”
Ranking 49ers undrafted free agents: QB pressure king Mikail Kamara leads the way (paywall)
“Still, he was consistently productive on Indiana’s national champion squad. And there were roughly 7-10 teams interested in Kamara throughout the process, with perhaps half that number pushing hard to sign him as the draft drew to a close.
What swung it for the 49ers? They plan to use him the way Indiana used him in 2024, when he had 10 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and led the FBS in total pressures (68), per Pro Football Focus.
The Hoosiers allowed him to pin his ears back and go after the quarterback that season, which is 49ers defensive line coach Kris Kocurek’s style. Last year, Kamara was asked to drop into coverage a lot more — 70 times versus 10 in 2024 — and his pass-rush stats dipped (two sacks, seven TFLs) as a result.
Another factor in the 49ers’ favor: Kamara will join former Hoosier teammate CJ West on San Francisco’s defensive line. West and Kamara spoke on the phone in the run-up to the draft, with West talking up the merits of Kocurek’s style of play.”
49ers’ De’Zhaun Stribling pick draws confusion from Brian Baldinger
“And look, all these draft guides and all these experts—there was a lot of choices at receiver, but I don’t know that anybody had De’Zhaun going there. Look, he’s a big, fast guy, played a lot of college football. We know that. We’ll just see how quickly he can adapt and become a starter.
“But to trade down twice, to have a whole night to think about it, to have the first pick of the second round, and you come out with that? I think that was pretty much a shock to everybody.”
