The 49ers checked out all three defensive back prospects for the upcoming supplemental draft.

The San Francisco 49ers secondary has some question marks, and in two weeks, the team has a chance to potentially add another rookie to the mix. The 2018 Supplemental Draft takes place on July 11th, and on Thursday, the 49ers attended a workout for Western Michigan cornerback Sam Beal. All 32 teams were on hand, with Beal projected as the highest supplemental draft pick since Josh Gordon was a second round pick in 2012.

Earlier this week, the 49ers attended the workout of Mississippi State safety Brandon Bryant. Last week, they were on hand for the workout of Virginia Tech cornerback Adonis Alexander. Oregon State linebacker Bright Ugwoegbu is also eligible, but I have not seen reports of his workout.

Off-field issues are usually the reason for a player entering the supplemental draft. In this case, Beal did not complete enough credits to suit up for 2018. Rather than redshirt the season, he elected to turn pro.

All three players have been getting significant praise leading up to the draft. Beal seems to be getting the most praise, with some suggesting he could be had for as high as a second round pick. If you submit a bid on a player in the supplemental draft and are the highest bid, you lose that 2019 draft pick.

Beal ran a sub-4.5 40 on his first run, and while it was a home field 40 instead of a Combine neutral 40, that’s still impressive. Gil Brandt posted Beal’s full numbers. You can check those out below. Additionally, check out scouting reports from Draft Wire and NFL Mocks.
