The 49ers on Thursday made a few expected roster moves official. They announced tendered contracts to three restricted free agents, picked up options on four players and declined the team option for wide receiver Pierre Garçon.
Running back Raheem Mostert, a restricted free agent, was tendered a one-year contract. The same goes for exclusive rights free agent linebacker Elijah Lee and defensive back Greg Mabin.
None of these come as a surprise since those one-year tenders will be relatively cheap. The ERFAs will not be able to negotiate with other teams. Mostert can negotiate with other clubs, but the 49ers have the right of first refusal and will receive draft pick compensation if Mostert winds up signing elsewhere, if San Francisco used a first- or second-round tender.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk, defensive lineman Cassius Marsh, linebacker Dekoda Watson and cornerback K’Waun Williams all had their team options picked up for 2019.
There aren’t any surprises here either. Juszczyk is a vital, do-everything piece in the 49ers’ offense. Marsh and Watson are good depth players off the edge, while Williams has the inside track for the starting nickel corner spot next season.
Reports of Garcon’s option being declined surfaced in February. San Francisco simply made it official Thursday. He played only 16 games across two seasons for the 49ers and looked like a shell of his former self. He will be worth $7.2 million in dead money on the salary cap.
