Vegas is expecting a high scoring game, too.

If there’s an opportunity to talk about gambling, I’m probably going to take it. I’m fascinated by it. So when Vegas released their week one odds—even with the season five months away—I couldn’t wait to talk about it. The San Francisco 49ers will travel to Tampa Bay week one to take on Jameis Winston and the Bucs.

Generally speaking, any time the point spread is under points points on the road, Vegas is hinting at the fact that the road team is better. You get three points for being the home team alone, basically. The biggest takeaway for me here is what this spread will be in a couple months from now, once both rosters are set. If the line moves, that tells us that one team had the superior offseason from now until then(barring any significant injuries.)

Vegas is also expecting a high scoring game. The total points have been set at 49. That’s the fifth highest total for all the games going on the opening week. Vegas is predicting Tampa Bay will win 26-23.

A lot will obviously change from now until then. Still, it’s interesting to see what the outside world thinks of each team as they stand right now. Not very highly of either defense, apparently.
