The 49ers added offensive line depth in Round 6 with Vanderbilt’s Justin Skule. It was their second sixth-round selection.

Skule measures out at 6-7, 317 pounds and started 40 games at multiple positions on the offensive line for the Commodores. He’s not a mauler by any stretch, but he may be athletic enough to play both inside and at tackle for San Francisco. Pro Football Focus ranked him as the No. 19 tackle in the draft with a 74.1 grade.

He’ll have competition for the swing tackle spot, and waiting until Round 6 shows the 49ers weren’t awfully concerned with adding a top talent. They want a player who can potentially develop into a starter without shelling out premium draft capital. Skule fits that mold.
