Brooks, 33, has been battling with third-year player Eli Harold for the starting strong-side linebacker spot and Harold started the most recent game against the Broncos. Brooks’ actual release may be delayed while the 49ers look to see if their are any suitors for an edge rusher who either has led or tied for the 49ers’ team lead in sacks every season since 2013.
