The 49ers veteran starter sounds confident he will be able to play unencumbered against the Colts.

49ers starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been out since he suffered a right calf injury in the first half of the team’s 28-21 loss to the Seahawks in Week 4. However, coming off a bye, it appears Garoppolo sounds confident he will return to the field this Sunday against the Colts.

In a press conference with reporters on Wednesday, Jimmy G shared that his calf is “Feeling good. Feel real good. Go out there, test it out a little bit, but overall feeling like it’s in the right spot.” With rookie quarterback Trey Lance missing practice while he deals with an injury of his own, the Niners are limited under center if Garoppolo is unable to take the field.

Garoppolo acknowledged that his calf limited him significantly just a couple of weeks ago. He did work out on the field before the 49ers’ 17-10 loss to the Cardinals in Week 5 but was ruled out after he was hampered by his calf, “Yeah, pushing off of it, just those quick, little jerky movements, I guess you could say. Yeah, just didn’t want to push it too much last week, but I think during the Bye week, we’ve really made some big strides, so I’m happy with where it’s at.”

The 49ers quarterback was still limited in practice on Wednesday, but Garoppolo is cautiously optimistic that he will be back to 100% by this Sunday, “I’m hoping, yeah. I mean, it’ll get better every day, I think, test it out on the field, see what we could do, and everything. But you know, right now, it feels great.”

Garoppolo has completed 66.1 of his passes for 925 passing yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in four games this season. Already three games behind the Cardinals in the NFC West, the 49ers need to begin racking up wins to stay in postseason contention. It appears that Garoppolo will have a chance to get them back on track this week.
