The San Francisco 49ers announced they have re-signed long-snapper Jon Weeks to a one-year extension. Weeks appeared in all 17 games last season with the Niners, where he was named a Pro Bowler for the second time in his career.

That’s one third of the special teams trio. Kicker Eddy Pineiro is an unrestricted free agent. That’s the big one. He’s 31, and fresh off a season where he only missed one kick on 29 tries, and it was from beyond 55 yards. Pineiro has every right to demand a contract worthy of paying him top dollar at the position.

Punter Thomas Morstead is also a free agent. He’s also 40. Morstead finished 31st in the league in average and was dead last in net yardage. Perhaps it’s time to move on from the 40-year-old and find a punter with a net average higher than 37 yards.

According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows, the 49ers also tendered offensive tackle Austen Pleasants, who was set to be an exclusive rights free agent after the 2026 season.
