After exercising his 2019 option earlier this month. Weird.

According to himself, the San Francisco 49ers have released Cassius Marsh:

This is odd. On March 7th, the team just exercised his 2019 option. Here’s what Fooch said about Marsh then:

it is worth noting he is getting a decent pay raise. He signed a two-year deal last year that paid him $1.1 million last season, along with a $2 million roster bonus and $400,000 in per-game roster and an offseason workout bonus. This year, he is due $3.8 million in base salary, $400,000 in per-game roster and an offseason workout bonus, and an additional $900,000 in bonus money. He might lose his job to a Nick Bosa or Josh Allen and/or a veteran pass rusher, but the team would seem to think he can compete for a fairly significant rotational role at least.

So, a week later Marsh has been released.

Marsh played 550 snaps for the team last year. Yes, he was replaced by Dee Ford. Perhaps there’s more info on this that we don’t know. Because even if Marsh was “okay” last year, that’s still the type of quality you would like to fill your roster out with.

According to the press release this was a corresponding move after singing Antone Exum. Unless they are thinking of pairing Dee Ford up with his old partner. EYE EMOJIS.
