A week after he suffered a concussion in practice, rookie linebacker Donavin Newsom still is dealing with symptoms that include headaches, problems sleeping and issues with his balance.

Newsom was knocked unconscious after he collided with fellow undrafted rookie Chanceller James while trying to defend a pass in the middle of the field. Newsom was taken by ambulance to Stanford Hospital, where he spent the last two nights. He does not remember the collision.

His agent, Daniel MacNeil, said Newsom will begin physical therapy at the 49ers facility and at Stanford this week. Like all the 49ers during training camp, he’s been spending the night at the team hotel in Santa Clara and going to the practice facility during the day.

However, he’s been able to do very little when he’s there.

Training camp ends on Thursday.
