Meet your demon pass rusher

Nick Bosa to the San Francisco 49ers was once thought impossible, but now it’s a reality. Many consider the Ohio State defensive end the best player overall in the 2019 NFL Draft and he has been selected by the 49ers with the second pick.

The 49ers pass rush was abysmal in 2018 and it was made clear early-on in the 2019 offseason that John Lynch meant business on fixing the unit. They released Cassius Marsh (after picking up his option) and traded for Kansas City Chiefs edge rusher Dee Ford. That still left the other end for an edge-rusher and Bosa will be plugged in there to fill the void.

Bosa is a stout defensive end being six feet, three inches, and 265 pounds. His hand technique is nothing short of elite and if there’s anything that may need work it’s his stand-up ability. Don’t let that deter you, Bosa is one of the best players in this draft. His draft card here at Draft Network gives you everything you need to know about him.

A second generation defensive end, Nick Bosa is the the son of John Bosa who was the first round draft choice of the Miami Dolphins in the 1987 NFL draft. The elder Bosa’s career was brief with only seven sacks and two fumble recoveries across 31 games. Nick Bosa is also the brother of Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa who has been a game-changer since coming to the Chargers in 2016.

Nick Bosa’s injury history is concerning as he was sidelined his junior year with an abdominal injury after just three games and he didn’t feel right until long after the season was over. Before that he suffered and ACL tear that ended his high school career.

One thing is for certain: the 49ers pass rush needed sacks. The rest of the defense was suffering for everyone not named DeForest Buckner’s inability to get pressure. The 49ers would have a line of Ford, Buckner, Solomon Thomas, and Nick Bosa. If Thomas can take his game to the next level, we are talking about what could be the best defensive line in football in a year or two.
