Thornton retired from the NFL in August

As the San Francisco 49ers began their offseason program today, DT Cedric Thornton was added to the active roster, per Field Yates. His retirement from August is apparently over. In 2017, Thornton appeared in 15 games for the Buffalo BIlls, while starting three. He finished with four QB hits and two sacks. In 2016, Thornton played for the Dallas Cowboys. The prior four years Thornton played with the Philadelphia Eagles.

So, another defensive tackle, huh? Maybe I’m reading too much into this. Thornton is more than likely a camp body. While he has plenty of NFL experience, he didn’t play football for an entire year. That said, what are the odds the team is working on a deal to move one of those former first round defensive linemen? Just a thought. This is usually the time when we see teams bring in depth and guys that will fill out the 90-man roster.
