Could this be related to Arik Armstead’s health, or how the backup defensive tackles performed on Monday night?
Former New England Patriots defensive back Jason McCourty is on the media scene now and tweeted that the San Francisco 49ers are signing defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day.
The #49ers and Sebastian Joseph-Day have agreed to terms per sources.
Joseph-Day gets a chance to join a contender and compete for another Super Bowl!

Joseph-Day started 30 games at defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers in the past two years. He’s played 542 snaps this season. According to Pro Football Focus, Joseph-Day played at least 35 snaps in every game but three this year.
On the season, Joseph-Day has five tackles for loss and three sacks. The 310-pounder should provide some necessary beef up the middle for the 49ers as Arik Armstead gets healthy.
On Monday night, Kevin Givens and T.Y. McGill both played 23 and 22 snaps, respectively. After Javon Hargrave and Javon Kinlaw, there were no other options for the position.
At this point, the 49ers might be better off giving Armstead time off until the playoffs if his injury is still bothering him. Perhaps that’s the reason for the addition of another defensive tackle.
