The 49ers on Friday took advantage of the end of the Alliance of American Football. They inked former San Diego Fleet defensive lineman Damontre Moore to a one-year deal according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Moore originally broke into the NFL with the Giants in 2013 as a third-round pick out of Texas A&M. He spent two full seasons there, but was waived near the end of his third year. He was scooped up by the Dolphins, then made stops in Dallas, Seattle and Oakland. Moore played just two games for the Raiders in 2018.
Teams saw Moore’s production decline after a promising start to his career. He posted 9.5 sacks between the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but he’s only posted 0.5 sacks since while seeing action in just nine games.
He did find success in the AAF. When the league folded, Moore was tied for second the league with 7.0 sacks in eight games.
The 49ers have bolstered the top of their depth chart on the edge, but they still need to fill out the margins with more quality pass rushers. Moore has a real shot to land a roster spot if he gets back to his second and third-year form.
