Despite another crushing end-of-season defeat, the San Francisco 49ers are once again expected to be one of the NFL’s best teams again in 2024. They’re tied with the Chiefs and Ravens atop DraftKings Sportsbook’s projected team totals for next season.
With the 49ers it’s hard to believe they’ll be able to just get on the horse and ride it to another tremendous year where they win 12-plus games and make a deep playoff run, but it’s been hard to believe that after all of their recent postseason defeats and they’ve still managed to put together a string of very good years. The lone exception since 2019 was the 2020 campaign where the injury bug caught up and derailed their season before it could really start.
San Francisco figures to return virtually its entire starting offense in 2024, and there’s an argument to be made that their defense is at least deeper than it was in 2023. First-time defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen is certainly a question mark, but all signs point toward the 49ers being a top team once again next year and the early odds indicate as much.
