Let’s set aside the 49ers and Chiefs’ vastly different performances through the first two weeks for a moment. Kansas City and its high-powered offense are the big favorite at home against San Francisco and its porous pass defense. It makes sense. The Chiefs are a more talented team. However, there’s a real chance the 49ers-Chiefs matchup is the highest-scoring game of the year from a fantasy football perspective.

Both teams Sunday have explosive offenses with defenses that don’t instill a lot of confidence that they can shut down the other offense. That’s a recipe for a lot of fantasy points, so we took a look at the 49ers roster and tried to sift through who to start and who to sit for Week 3.

Start: QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Week 1 was rough, and Week 2 was better, but there’s another level for Garoppolo to reach and Kansas City’s pass defense is a prime candidate to get the 49ers signal caller back on track. The Chiefs have allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete a 65.8 percent of their throws for 860 yards with six touchdowns and one interception through two games. Even if Garoppolo does make a couple mistakes, the sheer volume of throws necessary to keep up with Kansas City will give ample opportunities for Garoppolo to rack up fantasy points.
