A trade back from the No. 31 overall pick in this year’s draft has always seemed like a good idea for the 49ers, but their acquisition of the No. 13 overall pick in a trade with the Colts makes a trade back from 31 even more likely. That’s the exact route they take in the Draft Wire’s latest three-round mock, only a good value pick forces them to forego some of their biggest needs.

Their first pick in the mock lands them Oklahoma star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Lamb is an after-the-catch monster who could turn into a nightmare cover for defenses in a Kyle Shanahan offense that often generates so much space for receivers.

Lamb measured in at 6-2, 189 pounds, and had two monster years as a sophomore and junior for the Sooners. He posted 65 catches for 1,158 yards and 11 touchdowns in his second year. His third year was even better with 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns on 62 catches. He averaged a whopping 19 yards per reception during his three-year college career.

A big-time receiver with the 13th pick makes a lot of sense for San Francisco. Whether they like Lamb will depend on whether they see enough on tape to determine he can get open against an NFL defense in an NFL offense. What comes next for the 49ers is a little more head-scratching.
