The contract standoff between Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has entered a new level.

Following different chatter, cryptic social media posts and multiple rumors surrounding the 49ers 26-year-old pass catcher, Aiyuk made the move to unfollow his team on Instagram.

Via @BleacherReport on Twitter:

Unfollowing a team during contract negotiations has become a fairly common move around the NFL. In 2021, fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel unfollowed the 49ers on social media while he was waiting for his new contract.

Aiyuk is entering the fifth-year option on his rookie contract after being drafted in the first round out of Arizona State in the 2020 NFL draft. In four seasons with the 49ers, Aiyuk has racked up 269 receptions for 2931 yards and 25 touchdowns in 62 career games.

Aiyuk is coming off a career-best campaign with 1342 yards to go along with 75 catches and seven touchdowns.

If he doesn’t sign a new contract, Aiyuk will enter unrestricted free agency next offseason. However, the 49ers will have the chance to franchise tag the breakout receiver.

With the draft quickly approaching, clarity surrounding Aiyuk’s situation in San Francisco could be revealed.
